Mrs. Ritchie will be gone next week. Mrs. Gellert will be here Monday and Wednesday. We'll have a sub on Tuesday.

Here's What's Going on in the Beacons' World:

Writer's Workshop: We have completed outlines of 3 paragraph essays. The students all did a wonderful job on this challenging skill. They will be typing them up and editing them next week.

Reading: We will continue reading Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare.

Math:
Red/ Gold Dragons: Will be working through Unit 8: Algebra and patterns. The next unit will be on Customary units of Measurement.

Cool Blue Dolphins: They are working on a unit on place value.

Science: They should be working on their weather tracking chart at home. They made cloud finder wheels to help them identify types of clouds. (Let's hope for some variation in the clouds besides gray!!) Look for information that came home about the Science Fair! We'll be taking time to discuss the scientific process with them in class, but it's never to early to start thinking of ideas!

Social Studies:
As part of our integrated curriculum, we are writing letters to President Obama. We are asking him important questions such as this letter which as student wrote: " I have 3 questions for you. What name is your puppy going to have, do you like American Idol and when will you stop the war in Iraq?" The students have been researching questions and are doing a wonderful job on their letters. We went to the computer lab today and students started typing up their letters. I plan to mail them to the White House when we are all done with this project.
Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn't music. ~William Stafford

Looking forward to another exciting week in Beacon's World,
